To mark the Global Wind Day, Ignitis Renewables, an international green energy company, organised the first Good Neighbours gathering in the Mažeikiai district, bringing together local communities that live near the company’s wind farms. Representatives of communities, schools and organisations from various Lithuanian regions – Mažeikiai, Kretinga, Tauragė, Jurbarkas, Kelmė, Plungė, Jonava, Pakruojis, Pasvalys and Klaipėda district – took part in the event. What unites them is their proximity to operating, under-construction or planned wind farm projects.
During the event, participants visited the Mažeikiai wind farm, measured wind speed, explored the inside of a wind turbine and took part in educational activities on renewable energy. Financial support opportunities for communities were presented, and representatives shared the best practices from already implemented projects. The gathering became a platform for dialogue, exchange of experiences and new ideas on how to create long-term value for both local residents and the country’s energy sector.
