Financial support for communities

The growth of green generation capacity is heavily reliant on the active participation of local communities. We are committed to enhancing the value of these communities by supporting their development. One of the primary ways we achieve this is by providing financial assistance for projects that are crucial to the communities surrounding our operational areas.

Objectives of financial support

We provide financial support for community projects and initiatives in order to contribute to the development of community infrastructure, events and other initiatives. We hope that contribution to the creation of community welfare will help compensate any inconvenience experienced during the construction or operation of our renewable energy projects.

Which communities are eligible to receive financial support?

Eligibility for financial support is limited to community projects situated in proximity to our renewable energy projects that are either under construction or operational. In order to help local communities build a more sustainable everyday life, our priorities include energy efficiency, renewable energy production, environmental protection, climate change mitigation, social and educational projects aimed at strengthening entrepreneurship, health and other competences.

Annual report

In 2022 Ignitis Renewables and its subsidiaries have granted financial support to nine communities that are located near the renewable energy projects managed by the companies. A total of EUR 86,100 has been allocated to support the communities financially. All approved projects feature upgrades and installation of the infrastructure that is relevant to the local communities.

Annual report

Ignitis Renewables, is continuing sustainable and close cooperation with communities that are located near the renewable energy projects under development, under construction or in operation. This year financial support was allocated for the projects of the communities from Tauragė, Mažeikiai, Kretinga (Lithuania) as well as Pomerania and Silesia (Poland). In 2023 the total funds allocated for funding the projects that improve the wellbeing of communities amounted EUR 350,000.

Ignitis Renewables financial support to communities in Lithuania in 2024

Ignitis Renewables is continuing close cooperation with communities located near renewable energy projects that are under development, under construction or in operation. Organisations in Lithuania have received more than €561,000 this year. Support was allocated to communities near the wind parks of Kelmė, Kretinga, Jurbarkas, Mažeikiai and Tauragė. Supported projects include activities such as the renovation of community centres, sports fields, and infrastructure as well as the organisation of cultural, educational, and sports activities of interest to the community members.

Ignitis Renewables’ voluntary financial support for communities in Lithuania in 2025

In Lithuania, Ignitis Renewables allocated voluntary financial support to community projects near Kelmė, Kretinga, Jurbarkas, and Tauragė wind parks. Organisations received more than €446,000. The supported projects include installing or upgrading local infrastructure, such as community centres, playgrounds, walking paths, and lighting, as well as organising cultural, educational, and sports activities relevant to the communities.

Ignitis Renewables’ generation fee contributions for community projects (paid by Environmental Project Management Agency (EPMA)) amounted to €117,000. In the Mažeikiai district, part of this support was granted to three projects that will improve local infrastructure and provide young people with autism spectrum disorder with opportunities for skills training. Another part of the support was allocated to citizens living near the Mažeikiai wind farm and the EPMA platform for support management.

In total, Ignitis Renewables provided support to 43 communities located near its renewable energy projects across Lithuania, Latvia, and Poland in 2025. More than €981,000 was allocated to organisations to conduct projects that will directly benefit local communities.

Ignitis Renewables’ voluntary financial support for communities in Poland in 2025

In Poland, this year, financial support was provided to community projects near Silesia and Pomerania, amounting to almost €193,000. Most of the support will be used by communities to install or upgrade local infrastructure, including energy efficiency improvements, modernisation of sports and cultural facilities, and acquisition of firefighters’ safety equipment. It will also fund an animal care shelter, educational activities, and community events.

After receiving funding, we installed 15 streetlights. Four of them are located near the community centre, so not only the basketball and volleyball courts are lit, but also the stage we built with our own hands. The others are located in the most prominent part of the village – Stoties street.

The Girkaliai community has been participating in projects for three years now and is delighted with the results achieved. First of all, we set up information stands, which made people more interested in our settlement. We also renovated the community centre. We replaced the roof, insulated the premises and refurbished the interior. People are delighted with how the settlement has changed. Each project means not only change for us, but also an impetus to continue creating.

The town we live in has a long history and is home to many cultural sites. When we applied for financial support, we already knew that a section of the pilgrimage route would be created from Pikeliai, leading all the way to Poland. Pilgrims need a place to sleep, prepare lunch or dinner and wash. So, we allocated part of the financial support provided by Ignitis Renewables to the town to install these amenities in the community premises.

When we learned that a wind farm developer can support our school, we applied without hesitation. This is how we got the dome, where lessons, games and educational activities take place. The children love it, especially in spring, when it is still cold outside but warm inside thanks to the Sun's rays. Along with the dome, the school's infrastructure was also improved. The interior was renovated and the stadium was refurbished.
