Ignitis Renewables, together with other members of Lithuanian Wind Power Association (LVEA), has signed a commitment to local communities.  This document names and details the key principles which must be adhered to by LVEA members developing wind energy projects. You can find the commitment here (link).

Ignitis Group has approved Group Community Engagement and Relations Management Guidelines according to which the Group companies engage communities in their activities and manage their relations as well as set out measures for implementation of these principles across the Group, which strengthens business culture and practice oriented towards responsibility and sustainable development.

During the construction of wind farms, we meet, communicate with landowners, communities, municipal representatives and other stakeholders. We answer all relevant questions.

Ignitis Renewables is open to cooperation offers that would create a more sustainable world. Our mission is to create an energy smart world, so we care about environment in which we operate.

Ignitis Group community relations

Maintaining close relations with the communities where we operate and with non-governmental organisations is one of the key principles of sustainable and responsible business, which are established in the Code of Ethics and the Sustainability Policy of Ignitis Group. We operate in a consistent and transparent manner, taking responsibility for our activities and cooperating with various organisations. The assets and infrastructure of the Group (power plants, wind farms, solar parks, electricity and gas distribution networks) are geographically dispersed throughout different regions in Lithuanian and neighbouring countries, therefore, the Group’s activities can have an economic, social or environmental impact on the residents living in the vicinity of the Group’s assets. We understand that local residents want to live in a secure and clean environment.

Good community relations are important in the context of the entire Group both when talking about new projects of Ignitis Renewables, Vilnius CHP’s and Kaunas CHP’s activities and about long-term activities of other Group companies – Ignitis Gamyba and ESO. The same as carrying out any other activity of the Group, we expect that employees and partners will adhere to our Code of Ethics when engaging communities.

One of the mechanisms helping us to maintain our commitments, is a confidential trust line, which can be used by all internal and external stakeholders who want to report about potential or actual violations of our sustainability principles. Each wind farm project has a designated person whom communities can contact directly.

  • We voluntarily measure air pollution in the vicinity of Vilnius and Kaunas CHPs. We consult local communities when selecting appropriate measuring locations. The results are disclosed on the websites of the companies.
  • We regularly meet communities, landowners, municipality representatives, other stakeholders. We organise facility and equipment tours.
  • We conduct education campaigns, e.g., a large-scale education campaign where the public was introduced to energy efficiency measures. We also educate about safety in field work, during storms, etc.
  • We create a possibility for the communities located near the objects of Ignitis Renewables to submit applications for financing the projects relevant to them.
  • We cooperate with schools and universities: our specialists conduct classes and lectures about the energy sector, we organise tours in Lithuanian power plants, award scholarships to energy engineering and electricity engineering students. You can learn more about our initiatives here:
