Ignitis Renewables, an international company and green energy leader in the Baltics, presents the latest results of a public opinion survey, which shows growing public support for renewable energy in Lithuania. An increasing number of people agree that the development of renewable energy not only strengthens the country’s energy independence but also enables competitive electricity prices and creates tangible benefits for local communities.

According to the survey data, 58% of respondents agree or strongly agree that Lithuania has the potential to produce more renewable energy than is needed for domestic consumption. Compared to 2024, this figure has increased by 18 percentage points. There was also a significant increase in the share of residents who believe that communities located near renewable energy projects receive financial support – from 28% to 46%.

“We see a clear trend – society’s understanding that renewable energy is a reliable, safe, and long-term value-creating part of the energy ecosystem is growing. People more often associate renewable energy with energy independence, competitive electricity prices and real benefits for local communities living near wind or solar farms, not just climate goals,” says Paulius Kalmantas, Communications Partner at Ignitis Renewables.

The survey also shows that more than half of residents agree that increasing renewable energy capacity helps ensure competitive electricity prices in Lithuania. This is particularly important in the current geopolitical context, where energy security has become a strategic priority for both the state and society.

Additionally, the study reveals growing public openness toward project development in their neighbourhoods – an increasing number of respondents state that they support the expansion of renewable energy projects near their place of residence. This indicates that Ignitis Renewables’ consistent dialogue with local communities is delivering tangible results.

The representative opinion survey of Lithuanian residents was performed by KOG Institute for Marketing and Communication Sciences in December 2025–January 2026. The survey was carried out online and by telephone among residents aged 18–64 across Lithuania (with a representative sample by gender and place of residence). 2,008 individuals participated in the survey.
