Erika’s path to becoming a Project Manager at Ignitis Renewables is a story of persistence, growth, and a commitment to making a difference in the renewable energy sector. With a background that spans from financial audits to leading innovative energy projects, her career is marked by versatility and a passion for sustainability.
From Assurance to Renewables
After spending around 10 years abroad and completing her university studies, Erika returned to Lithuania, where she began her career as an Assurance Associate. In this role, she conducted financial audits, which ingrained in her a strong sense of precision and attention to detail. “The work required a deep focus on accuracy, and those skills have been invaluable in every project I’ve managed since,” Erika reflects. Her experience also laid the groundwork for understanding financial analysis, which would later become crucial in evaluating the viability of renewable energy projects.
Transitioning into Renewable Energy
Erika’s shift into the renewable energy sector came with her role as a Financial Analyst, where she focused on solar PV M&A and financing. This experience gave her a solid financial foundation, but she soon realized that her true interest lay in project management. “I found myself wanting to be more involved in the broader scope of projects, beyond just the numbers,” she explains. Her next role as an Innovation Project Manager allowed her to lead national energy innovation initiatives, gaining hands-on experience in project management and innovation, which set the stage for her current position.
Managing Solar and Wind Projects
Today, Erika is a Project Manager at Ignitis Renewables, where she oversees utility-scale solar PV and onshore wind projects. Her main responsibilities include managing timelines, budgets, and risk assessments, as well as handling complex negotiations with landowners, institutions, and suppliers to secure long-term leases and permits. “My role is all about making sure that projects stay on track, and that means a lot of coordination, strategic planning, and problem-solving,” she says. A typical day involves reviewing project schedules, addressing risks, and meeting with stakeholders to ensure smooth project progression.
Overcoming Challenges in Greenfield Development
Erika acknowledges that greenfield projects—especially during the land acquisition and permitting phases—come with their own set of challenges. “One of the biggest challenges is managing uncertainty. There are always unexpected hurdles when working with new sites and communities,” she notes. Erika tackles these obstacles by maintaining open communication with stakeholders and conducting thorough risk assessments. “It’s all about anticipating potential issues and having a plan in place to address them before they escalate,” she adds.
Finding Her Place at Ignitis Renewables
Erika joined Ignitis Renewables over two years ago, drawn by the company’s commitment to sustainability and its innovative approach to renewable energy. “I was impressed by the company’s focus on making a real impact in the industry,” she shares. “What keeps me here is the opportunity to work on projects that are shaping Lithuania’s green energy future, alongside a dynamic and forward-thinking team.”
One of her most memorable experiences was working on a wind energy project, where she witnessed community attitudes shift. “Initially, many people were skeptical about the wind farm, but over time, as they learned more about the benefits, they became supporters. Seeing that change firsthand was incredibly rewarding,” Erika recalls.
A Fun Fact and Advice for Newcomers
Though Erika’s career is rooted in precision and planning, she has a playful side too. “When I finished high school, my dream was to become a Mexican soap opera actress,” she laughs. “Looking back, I’m glad my path took a different turn.”
Her advice for anyone starting in the renewable energy field? “Be flexible and open to learning. The industry is constantly evolving, and staying adaptable will help you navigate its challenges. And always focus on building strong communication skills, as so much of the work involves bringing different people together toward a common goal.”
Reflecting on Her Journey
When asked what she loves most about working at Ignitis Renewables, Erika highlights the company’s innovative spirit and its dedication to creating a greener future. “It’s inspiring to be part of a team that genuinely cares about making a difference,” she says. If she had to choose a downside, it would be the long timelines required to bring renewable projects to life. “The process can feel slow, especially when you know how urgently we need clean energy solutions. But it’s all part of building something truly sustainable.”
Erika’s journey from financial analysis to project management is a testament to how following one’s passions—and embracing new challenges—can lead to a fulfilling and impactful career.
