Vilnius Combined Heat and Power Plant

place Vilnius

The waste-to-energy unit of Vilnius CHP started generating electricity at the beginning of 2021. After completing the biomass unit, the energy will also be generated using biomass. The total power plant’s electricity capacity will amount to about 100 MW, and the heat capacity – about 240 MW. The capacity will cover about 40% of the central heating demand in Vilnius and cover the electricity demand of 230,000 households.

Kaunas Combined Heat and Power Plant

place Kaunas

The waste-fired power plant in Kaunas started operations at the end of 2020. Its electricity capacity reaches 24 MW, and heat capacity – about 70 MW. Such capacities will allow to reasonably incinerate about 200,000 tonnes of municipal waste generated in the region that was unfit for sorting and produce about 500 GWh of heat and about 170 GWh of electricity per year. The plant’s capacity is enough to cover 40% of the total heating needs of Kaunas.
